Houston Building on Hydrogen

From Forbes

The infrastructure bill signed in November included $9.5 billion in funding to accelerate the development of clean hydrogen technology with the goal of reducing the cost of clean hydrogen by 80 percent to $1 per kilogram in the next ten years.

Why the Biden Administration is going big on hydrogen:

  • Lower carbon

  • Jobs

  • $$$, of course

Houston, our lovely home, has some advantages in becoming the hydrogen capital of the world (a subcategory of energy capital of the world). The area has hundreds of miles of hydrogen pipeline (though it’s mostly for gray hydrogen), and oil and gas companies there have  growing demand for hydrogen to use in CCUS and other green initiatives.

For Houston to be #1 in H2, though, it needs to lay out a plan for moving from brown and gray hydrogen to green and blue. Which, let’s face it, will be much more colorful.
